My family visited Ottawa in August and stayed on Besserrer Street. We did not experience crime, but the number of panhandlers that approached us in broad daylight was most disturbing. We feel for these people and wish that they can get the help they need! In a 2 block walk there were likely 40 drunk / high / disoriented people. We planned to see the Fireworks from Parliament Hill after dark. Our two teens said they didn’t want to go because of fear of what we might experience on the way home! What is happening in Canada’s Capital I wonder?
