City staff will present its recommendations on how it will revitalize the ByWard Market. Hints of these recommendations have been offered to the Market Core Team members made up of representatives of the LCA, the Market BIA and other stakeholders.
Short-term recommendations include the creation of a municipal corporation to manage the ByWard Market and to invest in it, the renovation and repurposing of the Market Building into a fresh produce market, as well as the landscaping of the streets adjacent to the Market Building. Longer-term recommendations include replacing the parking on York Street by outdoor stalls, and replacing the garage building by a smaller commercial building making room for a public square facing the Market Building as well as an underground garage.
Staff will make a presentation on these recommendations at the June 8th LCA monthly meeting at the Routhier Centre on Guigues at 7:00 pm.
