Time to make King Edward side-street closures permanent
Below is the text of an April 2006 letter from the Lowertown West Community Association to Councillor Georges Bédard. At a meeting on April 10, 2006 the association resolved to support making permanent the existing road closures in Lowertown at King Edward Avenue.

Dear Councillor Bédard,
At its monthly meeting on April 10, 2006, the Lowertown West Community Association passed a resolution supporting existing road closures in Lowertown at King Edward Avenue. This resolution was passed following input from local residents both at the King Edward Avenue Task Force meetings, the Lowertown West Community Association meetings, and two public meetings on the King Edward construction slated to begin this spring.
For your information, the resolution reads as follows:
“Be it resolved that the Lowertown West Community Association(LWCA) recommends the permanent closing of the streets already closed-off along the west side of King Edward Avenue from Boteler to St-Patrick. The Association requests that the design plans for the Central-North Section presently being finalized include the planning and related costs of the permanent street closings. The Association will be conducting a community consultation (through the distribution of an information pamphlet with feedback collected electronically and through the next LWCA meeting on May 8, 2006) with area residents on this issue and will provide the City with the feedback received. The conduct of this consultation should not delay the inclusion in re-development plan of the design and costs pertaining to the permanent street closings. Finally, this resolution also has the support of the King Edward Avenue Task Force that has had an on-going involvement in the Kin Edward Avenue Re-development Plan.”
As you indicated, we understand you will communicate the Lowertown West Community Association and King Edward Avenue Task Force position when discussing this issue with City Staff. We also thank you in advance for your financial support for the printing of a notice to the community on this issue.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions regarding this, or any other issue.
Sincerely,
Angela Rickman, President, Lowertown West Community Association
Michel Valée, President, King Edward Avenue Task Force
