Community Protest
The rally held on King Edward Avenue at 6PM on April 16th, 2007, was a result of a presentation made to the Lowertown West Community Association on the King Edward Renewal project. Residents discovered with outrage that city staff had decided that a crosswalk would not be included at King Edward and Cathcart. This fueled the community’s perception that, although millions of dollars are being spent to fix the road, concerns about traffic, pollution, and safety are being ignored. Following this meeting, under the direction of Angela Rickman, the community organized to do a protest on King Edward Avenue. Poster boards were prepared in advance.
