Cathcart Crosswalk

King Edward / Cathcart, 2007 |
The community has been asking for a crosswalk on King Edward Avenue at Cathcart Street for around 15 years. This was the main reason for the protest in 2007, and it set off the campaign to tackle other unresolved issues. The community has been successful in obtaining a majority of the council to support the implementation of the crosswalk. As a result, special measures will need to be taken to calm traffic coming on and off of the bridge. This was a double victory for the community. There has been a delay in implementing the crosswalk. City bureaucrats have complained that this is a dangerous location and will require special study from consultants. There is a concern that the process is being dragged out in an effort to let the issue die.
