The City of Ottawa's budget debate is underway, from now until the final budget deliberations running from March 8th -10th. This is your chance to have your say in our budget.

Ecology Ottawa is asking Ottawa citizens and our City council to support clean energy, and make it a priority in the 2011 budget.
Investing in clean and efficient energy systems is about saving money and doing the right thing at the same time.
The Lowertown Community Association (LCA) is supporting Ecology Ottawa's call to make the 2011 budget Ottawa's greenest ever!

Lowertown Community Association submitted a letter to the Environment Committee urging them to support Ecology Ottawa's proposals on clean energy, welcoming the increase in the forestry services budget, cycling and other measures.
This budget also included cuts to the Election Contribution Rebate Program, which was started during the 2003 election. The cost of the program was $150,000, but it was funds well spent as before the program's inception, corporations (primarily developers) provided a majority of contributions to electoral candidates. By 2006, four fifths of donations were from individual citizens.
It is an important program for our local democracy.
LCA submitted a letter to Councillor Fleury urging him to introduce a motion to continue funding the Election Contribution Rebate Program, which helps citizens become involved in the democratic process. Read the full letter here.
